HCM12A Cr-rich oxide layer investigation using 3D atom probe

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 450(1-3), p.237 - 243, 2014/07

Three-dimensional atom probe techniques were applied to the investigation on the oxide scale in 12Cr ferritic-martensitic steel, HCM12A. A duplex oxide scale was formed in lead bismuth eutectic at 450-500$$^{circ}$$C, during 5500 h. Samples were located 500-700 nm away from the boundary between magnetite and Fe-Cr spinel layers, while the total oxide layer thickness is 18 $$mu$$m. It detected super enrichment of Cr with a size of ten nm roughly, as well as depletion of Fe and enrichment of O at the same site. Surrounding the Cr super enrichment area, enrichment of Si was newly noticed due to the scanned profile of detected atom counts. It is also confirmed that Pb and Bi concentration in the observed spinel region is almost null or less than 0.01 atomic percent, which is possible detecting lowest limit.

Measurement of $$B(M1)$$ for the $$pi p_{3/2} nu p_{1/2}^{-1}$$ doublet in $$^{68}$$Cu

Lifetimes of excited states in $$^{68}$$Cu were measured by the $$gamma$$-$$gamma$$-$$t$$ coincidence with two BaF$$_{2}$$ detectors through the decay of $$^{68}$$Cu$$^{m}$$ produced by the ($$n$$,$$p$$) reaction. The halflife of the 2$$^{+}$$ state at 84~keV was obtained as 7.84(8)~ns, corresponding to the $$B(M1; 2^{+}rightarrow1^{+} )$$ value of 0.00777(8)~$$mu_{N}^{2}$$. A shell model calculation with a minimum model space of $$pi p_{3/2}nu p_{1/2}^{-1}$$ gives a good prediction of this $$B(M1)$$ value by using experimental g-factors of neighboring nuclei. This small $$B(M1)$$ value can be explained by a shell model calculation with the $$f_{7/2}^{-r}(p_{3/2} f_{5/2}p_{1/2})^{n+r} (r=0,1)$$ model space.

OSL dating and tephra analysis of fluvial terrace sediments

no journal, ,

The uplift rate during the past hundred thousand years is estimated from the elevation and emergence ages of terrace surfaces which are used as geomorphologic standard. OSL dating is effective method to determine the emergence ages. Here we report a case study of quartz OSL dating of fluvial terrace sediments, and its adequacy is considered in the correlation with intercalated marker tephra. All samples were collected from fluvial terrace sediments along Kiso River and Tsukechi River which is a tributary of the Kiso. The investigated fluvial terrace sediments are composed of laminated sand layer and pumice layer which is likely to be reworked. The pumice was identified as On-Pm1 tephra by mineral composition, refractive indices of volcanic glass and phenocryst minerals, and the major element composition of volcanic glass. This indicated that the fluvial terrace sediments were deposited after 100ka. The extracted quartz grains from terrace sediments were measured by conventional SAR protocol. The obtained OSL ages are about 40-50 ka, being underestimated because the OSL decay curves from all samples were dominant by medium component which is unsuitable for OSL dating. We thus attempt to determine the equivalent dose using the isolated fast component OSL signal which is suitable for OSL dating.
